It's really cold!

SANTA IS COMING TO TOWN and that's why we're so cold! It's suppose to be at Christmas time! The first picture is in front of the Victorian House on Second Street directly behind MY FRIENDS AND I. It's so cute. Make sure you go by and see it. The next picture shows another shot of Mission Peak and the trees that still have fall color and the next ones are what I saw when I walked out the front door yesterday morning. My husband Frank was sweet enough to come out in the cold and squirt water on my car to get the ice off it. We are so spoiled here. My Daughters in IL. and CO. just laugh when they hear about our cold weather. Remember to click on the picture to make bigger.

Baby it's cold outside!

REMEMBER that Christmas Song? Well if you look close you can just see Mission Peak in the distance and the hills next to it in the next picture. I didn't get very close in these shots but you get the idea. It may be cold outside, but it's toasty and warm in MY FRIENDS AND I and we still have lots of shopping days left till Christmas. Come on in and see the wonderful decorations and gifts we have in stock.

December 1st already!

WHERE the heck did this year go? I know from talking to people that they feel the same way.
We still have the great big red cup drawing going on, in fact we stuffed some more stuff in it. You can still enter by coming in the shop or by leaving a comment on this blog. It's worth it. There's some pretty cute stuff in it. Check it out.

When leaving the store at closing this evening I was in awe at what I saw in the sky. The moon was just peeking over the hills and it was almost dark. It was such beautiful site. I had to call my kids in IL. and tell them they were looking at the same moon I was, made me feel closer to them.

It rained on our parade!

THE WEATHER wasn't the greatest, but the crowd still turned out. We had a good time watching the annual Parade of Lights Friday night. Suan from Les Belles Antiques had her little light up reindeer antlers on and helped to keep folks off the street during the parade. Note Santa on the float, he had his umbrella handy.
One of our customers came in shopping and tried on the little hat you see in the last picture. It looked so cute on her, but she resisted and didn't buy it, so it's still available.
These were taken with my new camera, hopefully I'll get better!

After Thanksgiving in Niles

The 3 days after Thanksgiving is open house time for the shops in Niles. Most are decorated and are full of wonderful, unique items that you won't find at the malls. MY FRIENDS AND I dealers are all having some kind of SALE in their booths and will have signs posted to let you know what they have on sale.
If you come on Friday, I suggest you come early, park some chairs on the sidewalk and shop during the day. Then stay for the Spectacular light parade that starts at 6:00 pm. It's a Niles Friday after Thanksgiving tradition. Can't come on Friday then make sure you come on Saturday or Sunday and have a fun, relaxing shopping experience. Don't fight the crowds, come shop NILES!

Thanksgiving is just around the corner

Sometimes I go to Martha Stewarts site and click on crafts. I found this really cute Turkey that you can print out and use for decorating your table.
Go to here and click on Make this craft, then print it out. Would be fun to make with kids.

WANT TO WIN THIS? You can come in the store and enter or leave a comment on this blog. The drawing will be December 15th.
The Big Santa book and Santa ornament are new, but the Raggedy Ann Book is vintage. It's all tucked in a really cute giant red cup that's as big as a bowl.

Framed Vintage Post Cards

At almost the price of a greeting card you can give a vintage postcard from the early 1900's framed in a beautiful vintage looking frame. These are actual postcards NOT copies. There are several to choose from including Christmas, Thanksgiving, Birthday and Greetings. I love to read the backs of these old postcards and think about the people who wrote them. Things have sure changed with telephones, computers and cell phones. I can't imagine not being able to talk to my daughters who live in different states almost daily. How those folks must have missed their friends and relatives who moved away, and the only word you'd get is a postcard or letter ever once in awhile.

I'm Back...........

We had the best time visiting our kids in IL. the time with them is always too short, but we made the best of it and packed in as much Grandkid time as we could.
Now that I'm back I've been pricing and rearranging areas in the store. That is one of the things I enjoy doing at My Friends And I not so much the pricing, but the rearranging. It's really a pleasure to work with all the cute stuff we have. I also re-did the windows. The Big Ol' Santa is sitting in his place of honor in the window. He's not for sale, but for enjoyment. Mary, dealer #14 made his soft sulpture head a long time ago and we put him back together, head, coat, pants and boots in that order almost every year.
Hope you come see the windows and admire him.

BUT one of them (not sure which one yet) will be in a basket DRAWING from November 15th to December 15th in the shop.
NOW HERE'S THE DEAL
Visit the shop and enter the drawing and for another chance to win leave me a COMMENT on this post. I'll add your name to the drawing that way too.

Fun time in IL.

We went to the cutest little town Antiquing yesterday. I found a few treasures and enjoyed looking at the older buildings and houses. Even went down a street named Niles. The last 2 pictures are of an old paper booket that I bought. It has flip strips on the pages so you can change the pictures. Kellog's made it in the 30's. Love these little old towns here in IL.

We're in IL.

Yep that's right we are here in Mohomet IL. visiting our Daughter and Grandsons (of course our Son-In-Law too!) We will be back in Fremont on the 12th hopefully with some new goodies for the shop. I will be adding pictures I took today when I can use my Son-In-Law's lap top. This computer doesn't have a slot for my XD card.
The big talk and concern around this area is the Oct. rain, which was record amounts and the fields of feed corn and soy beans still too wet to harvest. Every shop we went in today talked about it. I guess they can't weight the corn wet, so it has to be dry or taken to a place that drys it, which is of course is a added expense to the farmer. But those places are too busy to take new customers. It's something we in the bay area don't even think about, but the poor farmers here are losing money everyday they can't get their fields harvested.
Looks like the weather is going to be dry for a few days so maybe they can get their crop in.
Keep checking back for those pictures I mentioned and more on my IL. adventure.

HaPpY HaLLoWeeN!

It's been a tradition for the kids at Niles school to parade and Trick or Treat the downtown shops for years. In fact I used to take my now 20 year old Grandson at age 3 and 4 to walk with the kids. Yikes how time flys!
This year with Brother and Sister tag alongs we probably had close to 550 kids. The little goblins were so well behaved and we heard lots of Happy Halloween and Thank You's.

HERE THEY COME!
You might recognize Maxine from Tyme for Tea here with her little Grandson. Another generation joining the parade. Oh yes that's Frank my husband passing out the candy.
Even the principal and teachers dressed up.
Trick or Treat!
Do you know her? One of the Mom's who also is a MY FRIENDS AND I
regular, walked with her daughters class.

Fun Blog

If you like cooking or just vintage cookbooks, you have to go here and check out this gals blog. She has a darling site which features recipes from the 50's. If seeing these recipes makes you want a vintage cookbook of your own, come in and see the ones we have for sale in the shop.
All this makes me think of my Mom who loved to collect cookbooks and to try out new recipes Although I don't love cooking like she did (how many of us do any more) I do enjoy old cookbooks. To me they bring back fond memories of home and my Mother in her apron cooking. Speaking of aprons, you'll find some of those in the shop too! Hope you enjoy this site as much as I do.

The windows really are Boo tiful!!

Fall is coming!

Wait till you see our windows!
Mary and Peggy a Mother and daughter team who have a space in the shop painted the outside of the windows today. All I can say is that they are
Spooktacular!
It's not easy taking pictures of windows with the glare of cars etc., but I think you get the ideal. I will try taking some at night and in the early mornings when there won't be any cars in front of the store, but really you should just come on down to MY FRIENDS AND I and see for yourselfs how great they are. One thing you miss in the pictures is the glitter they added to the kitty's, pumpkins, leafs etc. it's so cute!

I'm back, on the computer that is

Well I have to say this has been a rough trip as far as blogging and computer use. I was at my brother's in Ark. and they had no computer service (who can live like that!) LOL and then when I got here to CO. my daughter was in the process of changing servers. I finially got back on line today. Here is a picture of some pretty cute stuff I've picked up. I have boxes of new goodies I will be bringing into the shop when I get back to Fremont the end of July. By the way if you've ever traveled to the mid and Southern states in the summer you know why we live in the Bay Area. The weather in Ark. and IL. was in the high 90's and the humidity was too. CO. is cooler but still warm and everyday around 2:oo p.m. a storm blows in and there is rain, thunder and lighting. It's kind of cool. I might be crazy but I enjoy all the noise~
I will try and post a little more often as long as I have service. We're going to some of my favorite stores this week, hopefully I'll find more good stuff.
OOPS! Just saw that the date is wrong in the picture it should be 1st of Aug.

Shop hopping

Yesterday we went to a few shops that we go to every time we come to IL. I found this nice quilt, and the cute little shoes which have holes in each toe, which only adds to the cuteness. I always wonder about the child that wore them. One of the stores had gone out of business. So Sad. We are seeing it a lot on this trip. I feel very happy lucky that MY FRIENDS AND I can still be in business in these bad economical times.

Springfield IL. Antique Show

We went to the Springfield antique show on Sunday. The weather said it "might" rain, well it did, it poured! There were 3 big overhangs and a large building full of stuff. The advertisement said rain or shine, and they meant it. I felt sorry for the ones set up outside, but it didn't seem to bother them, they just threw a tarp over their wares when it rained and took them off when it stopped for awhile. It was hot and humid around 90 degrees. I told one of the dealers there that if this was CA everyone would pack up and go home!

Here are just a few of the items I bought. I love the planter and vase.
